Formats for Teams of Disc Golfers

Print out this information to carry with you on the course (pdf)

  • Best Shot: Make teams of 2, 3, 4 or 5 players. Everyone on the team tees off. The team then decides which shot is the best and they all play from that spot. Continues on until the team holes out. Gross and net.

  • Best Disc: Each player plays the hole on their own and the team records the best score of the two. Gross and net.

  • Blind Draw: At the end of the round, randomly draw scorecards to produce 2 person teams. Take the best net score of either player and make a complete scorecard for the team. Lowest team score wins. Net per hole.

  • Blind Nine: Make teams of 2, 3, 4 or 5 players. All teams play 18 holes of best shot. After round is done, draw 9 random holes that are to be used to calculate the team score. For net play use Ĺ of handicap. Gross and net.

  • Chauffeur: Make teams of 3, 4 or 5 players. Only one player drives on each hole, the team then plays best shot from the drive to finish the hole except the person who drove on the hole. The driver on each hole is rotated thru scorecard (TD sets before beginning, either randomly or some other pattern). Variation: all play best shot after drive. Gross and net.

  • Chinese Fire Drill: Make teams of 3-5 players. All players drive, the team then chooses the best and worse drives. The player who owns the best drive finishes the hole by himself from his disc. The rest of the team finishes the hole by playing best shot from the worse drive (Variation: can also play worse shot, best disc, etc., any other team format from this lie). The team score is the combined best drive player plus the worse drive best shot score. Variation: The player who owns the best drive plays the worse drive by himself. The rest of the team plays best shot from the best drive. Gross and net.

  • Florida Scramble: Best shot with a twist - Make teams of 3, 4 or 5 players. Everyone on the team tees off. The team then decides which shot is the best, then all players play from that spot except the player whose shot was chosen. The next shot same thing; the best shot is selected and everyone plays from there except the person whose shot was selected (the previous guy is back in). This continues on until the team holes out. Gross and net.

  • Idaho Best Disc: Make teams of 3, 4 or 5 players. Each player plays the hole on their own. The team takes the two lowest net scores of the group and totals them up and records that as their team score. Lowest net team score wins. Net per hole.

  • Odd/Even Alternate Shot: One player always tees off on the odd number holes and the other player always tees off from the even numbered holes. Shots are then alternated until the finishing the hole. Gross and net.

  • Odd/Even (blind draw): At the end of the round, randomly draw scorecards to produce 2 person teams. Player A's net scores on odd holes (1, 3, 5, etc). Player B's net scores on even holes (2, 4, 6, etc). Lowest net team score wins. Net per hole.

  • Pinehurst: You and your partner tee off, and then swap lies. Play from your partnerís lie, and he plays from yours. Each throws again. The team then decides the best shot to play. The next player to shoot is the one who disc wasn't chosen. Players then alternate until finished with the hole. Gross and net.

  • Red Roc: You need to have several of the same make and color (ideally) discs, one for each team you have (yellow roc, blue cyclone, red roc, etc). Make teams of 3, 4 or 5 players with the skill level spread as evenly as possible among the teams. One different player will throw the red roc (or whatever model/color you come up with) on each hole. This player will throw only this disc for the entire hole. The remaining team members all play best shot together. The team's score for the hole is the best shot score combined with the red roc score. The red roc disc rotates thru the team's card for the round, order of red roc is dictated by order on scorecard. Lowest team score wins. Gross only (easiest) or gross and net per hole (best shot team gross, red roc player net per hole).

  • Scotch Alternate Shot: Both players tee off on every hole. The team then decides the best shot to play. The next player to shoot is the one who disc wasn't chosen off the tee. Players then alternate until finished with the hole. Gross and net.

  • Shamble: Make teams of 2, 3, 4 or 5 players. Each player drives, the team chooses the best shot then each player plays their own disc rest of hole. Each player takes his points for the hole and adds up for team score on the hole. Most points wins. Net per hole.
    Ace: +3 pts / Birdie: +2 pts / Par: +1 pt / Bogey+: 0 pts

  • Swap Shot: You and your partner tee off, and then swap lies. You play from your partnerís lie, and he plays from yours. Each throws again. Repeat each time. Scoring can be done several ways: total of all throws per hole, best personís (person with least number of throws), worst personís (person with most number of throws). Gross and net.

  • True Alternate Shot: One player is chosen to tee off on the first hole of play and teammates then alternate shots all the way around the course until done with the round. Gross and net.

  • Tough Shot: Everyone on the team tees off. The opposing team then decides which shot is the worse and they both play from that spot. Continues on until the team holes out. To finish the hole only one player needs to hole out. Gross and net.

  • Worst Disc: Each player plays the hole on their own and the team records the worst score of the two. Gross and net.

  • Worst Shot: Everyone on the team tees off. The opposing team then decides which shot is the worse and they both play from that spot. Continues on until the team holes out, to finish the hole each player must make their putt. Gross and net.

  • 666: The team plays 3 different formats for 18 holes, each format is played for 6 holes. All teams play the same format on the same six holes. You can use just about any 3 team formats you wish. For example: holes 1-6 Best Disc; holes 7-12 Worse Disc; holes 13-18 Odd/Even Alternate Shot. Gross and net.
